I stumbled on the 2000 Lincoln Continental browsing Google images for other Continentals. I really thought they had killed it in the early nineties but apparently they had gone on until 2002 with a bubbly-Taurus based model before laying it to rest. That go me curious: what other memorable names died the most forgettable deaths?

Actual laugh out loud moment. It's probably too soon as it still has the hope of a mid-cycle refresh.

And it's Mitsu/Eagle counterparts.
A good friend of mine had the Mitsu variant and it was a great little car.

Not that it was the best SUV in the world or anything but I feel like the legendary Blazer turned Trailblazer disappeared without hearing much about it. Honestly a couple months ago I was on chevy.com and went whoa wait a minute, where did the Trailblazer go?! Note: not even really disappointed it's gone though.

Watching Justified, I'm struck by the notion I might like a big, cushy, V8 powered gramps-mobile. Marshal Givens make sit look so cool.

Oddly, I think the last gen is probably the only one I ever liked before it got axed(mostly for the Atlas I6). It might have even been a high water mark but the 2009 bankruptcy did it in.

It was just strange how it quietly faded out. I had 2 S-10 Blazers in my time so it's just weird going to the chevy site and not seeing anything with the word Blazer in it.

The Dodge Colt is only memorable because no amount of pills and booze can make you forget the sheer displeasure of driving one, if you were ever unlucky enough to suffer such misfortune.

I'm more disappointed that the Trailblazer took the Atlas 4.2 with it.

I never played with an Atlas 4.2. I had an 88 and a 04 S10 Blazer, both had 4.3's in them one was non vortec heads, one was vortec heads.

I always liked that generation of Continental, but when I first found out both this and the eighth-gen were FWD and V6- powered (something I discovered when I was ten years old, mind you) , I was well and truly shocked.

The Roadmaster. Such a great name, too.
Though it would've been an insult to many, I wouldn't have minded if they'd kept the nameplate alive on the Lambda model (instead of Enclave)...or perhaps a re-badged Tahoe, since those are built at the same Arlington factory that used to make B-bodies.

Mitsubishi was at the top of its game in the late 90s. The Galant was actually a viable contender in the midsize market. But the nameplate lingered for years after the car itself had been forgotten. When it died, it looked like this. Not that anyone noticed.

The Mercedes-Benz CLK. Icon of its class for twelve years, superseded by the coupé versions of the C and E classes.

The Atlas 4.2 is probably the best 6-cylinder GM ever made. Gobs of low end torque, good power throughout the rev range, and immensely reliable. When it was released in 2002, it put out 270 hp at 6000 rpm and 275 torques at 3600 rpm. When it was killed, along with the TrailBlazer, in 2009, it was producing 291 hp and 277 tq, more horses than the 4800 V8 at the time, and much much more than the 4300 V6.

Definitely better than the last 4.3L on horsepower. The 4.3 only had 190hp, though I think around 250-260 torque. Sounds like a great motor. If the reliability was solid on them it sounds glorious.

Whoa, I didn't realize the '88+ Conti was based on the Taurus. I thought it was a bespoke platform from the Thunderbird or Panther but FWD, not a stretched Taurus. Explains why the fuel door was on the "wrong" side. Still, that V8...
